February 13, 2012 - Junior Achievement of Central Maryland will present, “Find Your Voice”- A Speak America Special Event – a learning series for Maryland-area high school students to assist in their personal communication development.
Speak America strives to help individuals, especially young people, to find their “voice” so that they can share their talents with others and reach their full potential in their personal and professional lives.
Led by Speak America founders and world-renowned speakers, Bart Queen and Glenna Griffin, the series will take place at the Junior Achievement headquarters (10711 Red Run Blvd., Ste. 110) in Owings Mills) on Saturdays, Feb. 18, Mar. 10 and Apr. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants are required to attend all three sessions.
By attending the sessions, students can build the confidence necessary to do such things in their future as give a speech in their college class, win over a potential employer in an interview, or even handle social interactions with their friends and family more effectively.
“Junior Achievement of Central Maryland strives to provide local students with the best financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship education possible. The upcoming Speak America “Find Your Voice” event takes that effort the extra mile,” said Sarah Wilson, vice president of education and outreach for Junior Achievement of Central Maryland.
“By incorporating this public-speaking instruction, students not only will have financial and business knowledge, but they will also know how to apply that knowledge in real world situations,” she added. “Every young adult will finish this program with the oratory skills they need to succeed in whatever path they take in life.”
The sessions also will feature a travel and scholarship competition. One student will earn the chance to travel with Queen and Griffin to South America this summer to share what they have learned with others. Additionally, the high school senior who shows the most progress after the workshop will be awarded a scholarship.
Admission to the series is free. For more information or to register, call 443-394-7211 or visit www.jamaryland.org.
