January 12, 2012 - According to the February 2012 issue of Consumer Reports, consumers who continue to do their banking at large banks can expect to see fee hikes and tougher account requirements continue as banks “try to make up billions in lost revenue due to the bad economy, new regulations, and in some cases perhaps even their own inefficiencies.”
But there is some good news for consumers, according to the Maryland & DC Credit Union Association (MDDCCUA). John Bratsakis, President and CEO of MDDCCUA, notes that while banks are closely examining what services they can eliminate and where they might be able to charge consumers, “credit unions have really stepped up their game to provide the same services as large banks but without the associated fees. This represents a real win for the consumer who now has options and choices.”
