Baltimore - Mid-career women in the Baltimore-metro area who have thought about starting a business or expanding their existing business through technology commercialization will have the opportunity to gain the support and assistance they need through ACTiVATE.
ACTiVATE is a year-long entrepreneurship program taught by experienced entrepreneurs who provide the tools, including access to mentors, potential funders, and sponsors, to help create a viable, growing company.
ACTiVATE is now recruiting women for its Class of 2012, which begins in September 2011 and runs through May 2012. Classes are held on Monday evenings and one Saturday per month and run through May 2012. Women with at least 5 years of business or technical experience who want to start a company, already have a company and need to develop some skills, or are just exploring entrepreneurship are invited to apply.
Founded in 2005 at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, the ACTiVATE program was recently licensed to a new nonprofit, the Path Forward Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, for expansion within the U.S. and abroad. In addition, ACTiVATE received a grant last spring from the Kauffman Foundation to support the expansion of the program nationwide.
Since its inception in 2005, more than 100 women have graduated from the program and more than one third of them have formed new companies or developed new products for their existing business.
Interested women should visit the ACTiVATE website at www.pathforwardcenter.org/activate/md-columbia. Those interested in mentoring the students or sponsoring the program should contact ACTiVATE at md-columbia@activateprogram.org.
