PINEY POINT, MD /March 15, 2011— Peter Ripmaster participated in the Lower Potomac River Marathon 2011 on Sat., March 13, 2011 as he continued his goal to fundraise $25,000 for prostate cancer research through Athletes for a Cure. The marathon was run number 24 out of an attempted 50 that will take three-years to complete and have Ripmaster traveling across the United States.
Athletes for a Cure is a fundraising and awareness program of the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) that assists athletes in their quest to raise money for better treatments and ultimately, cures for prostate cancer. All money raised through Athletes for a Cure directly benefits PCF, the leading philanthropic organization funding and accelerating research globally.
As a full-time Special Education teacher and father of two, Ripmaster has scheduled and financed each race personally, including travel and food costs, hotel stays, and race registrations; ensuring that all fundraised dollars go directly toward the cure. “Running is the easiest part; the real nightmare is the logistics.”
With each race he completes, Peter feels closer to his goal and recognizes the tremendous impact he is making, but, his eyes are already looking toward the next prostate cancer fundraiser. “I will finish these 50 marathons, no matter what happens to me, but it won’t mean that I am done with adventure or fundraising. In fact, I think it is just the beginning of what I am capable of.”
