January 27, 2012 –— John K. Hoey, President and CEO of The Y of Central Maryland, has received the SmartCEO “Future 50 Award.” This accolade recognize the 50 fastest-growing organizations in the Baltimore metropolitan area based on employee and revenue growth over the past three years. Hoey was also recently named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Prior to joining the Y as CEO in 2006, John spent the entirety of his professional career at publicly-traded, consumer-driven companies. He last served as President of Progressus Therapy, a division of Baltimore-based Educate, Inc. Hoey played a key role in the start-up of Laureate Education, an international higher education company.

Previously, he spent eight years in executive positions at Citigroup (formerly Citicorp). Hoey served on the boards of many other non-profit organizations, including The Family Tree, the National Aquarium in Baltimore and the Baltimore Workforce Investment Board. He currently chairs the Board of Visitors of the University of South Carolina's College of Arts & Sciences and serves on the Partnership Board of USC's Honors College. The Y is a charitable organization with programs and centers throughout Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard Counties.
