January 24, 2012 — The Horizon Foundation has added Nicolette Highsmith Vernick as President and Chief Executive Officer. Highsmith Vernick previously served as Senior Vice President for Program at the Center for Health Care Strategies, Inc., in Hamilton, NJ. Prior to that, she served as Director of Policy at the Center. During her tenure, she oversaw multimillion-dollar programs for major healthcare philanthropies, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Commonwealth Fund, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Highsmith is the former deputy director of the Managed Care Program for Massachusetts Medicaid, and was previously a senior Medicaid analyst at the Office of Management and Budget, Executive Office of the President, in Washington, DC. A graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s in History, Highsmith Vernick has a Master’s in Public Administration from American University.
