November 3, 2011 — Herbert Better, a partner with Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, was chosen as the recipient of the “Exceptional Service Award” by the judges of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Better received this award in recognition of his dedication and commitment in providing exceptional service to the court. He played an integral role in the founding of the Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, and was elected as the first president of the Historical Society. Better was the former president of the Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and of the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association. He served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Court-Appointed U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland. Better received the U.S. District Court’s Pro Bono Service Award in 2001, and was the 2003 recipient of the Peter A. DiRito award, presented by the Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Zuckerman Spaeder is a national litigation boutique with offices in Baltimore.
