November 1, 2011 — John J. Connolly, partner with Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, has received the Maryland Bar Foundation’s Legal Excellence Award for the Advancement of Unpopular Causes. Connolly was recognized for his advocacy on behalf of a Yemeni national and orthopedic surgeon who was held for more than eight years at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Connolly graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law with honor. Upon graduation, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Lawrence F. Rodowsky, Court of Appeals of Maryland. John is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the District of Columbia Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Connolly represents attorneys and law firms in legal malpractice claims and disciplinary actions, and he has represented individuals in white-collar criminal litigation. Prior to joining the Baltimore law firm, Connolly served as principal for Murphy & Shaffer LLC, and as Litigation Department Lawyer for Richards Kibbe & Orbe LLP. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Bar Library, and he is a contributing author to Appellate Practice For The Maryland Lawyer: State and Federal.
