

October 9, 2011 — John J. Engel and Lauren B. Ziegler have joined the Baltimore office of the law firm Ballard Spahr as associates. Engel joins the Real Estate Department, while Ziegler is a member of the Business and Finance Department. Engel comes to Ballard Spahr from Richards, Layton & Finger in Wilmington, Delaware, where he was an associate in the firm’s real estate group. While in law school, Mr. Engel served a clerkship with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency – Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, Water Enforcement Division, in Washington, D.C. He also interned with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, arguing asylum and removal cases in federal immigration court. Ziegler was an intern for Judge Ellen Hollander of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals (now a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Maryland) and a paralegal at Continental Realty. Ziegler graduated summa cum laude from McDaniel College and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
