August 8, 2011 — Erik Ginsberg, founder and partner of Slate Capital Group, and Darlene Brannigan Smith, Ph.D., dean, Merrick School of Business at University of Baltimore, have been elected to the board of directors of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Baltimore affiliate. Prior to establishing Slate Capital Group, a private equity firm, Mr. Ginsberg was a director with DB Capital Venture Partners (formerly ABS Ventures), where he oversaw investing in enterprise infrastructure and application software companies. He has also served as senior vice president of Sterling Capital, Ltd. Ginsberg is the cofounder and former president of Let’s Dish! Mid-Atlantic, a retail chain of meal assembly stores in Maryland and Virginia. Ginsberg currently serves or has served on the board of directors of Coastal Business Machines, LLC, eCoast Sales Solutions, Inc., Let's Dish! Mid-Atlantic, Mercari Technologies, Triplehop Technologies, NLP, Inc. and Wythe Will Distributing. Dr. Smith was named dean of the Merrick School of Business at University of Baltimore in 2007. She also served as academic director of Loyola University Maryland's executive and graduate business programs. As a professor, Dr. Smith has taught at a number of universities locally, at George Washington University and Loyola University Maryland, and abroad, in Chile, China, France and Mexico. She is a member of the board of directors for FMS Solutions as well as several nonprofit boards including Live Baltimore and Network 2000. She is a graduate of Leadership Maryland (Class of 2007) and the GBC’s The LEADERship (Class of 2009). NFTE is an international nonprofit that provides entrepreneurship programs to young people from low-income communities.
