June 21, 2011 — Bernie Dancel, a business leader and philanthropist, was presented the 2011 Jim Greenfield Award for Compassionate Leadership by The Arc of Howard County. The Award for Compassionate Leadership was established in honor of Howard County resident and businessman Jim Greenfield, Columbia Builders founder and long time supporter of The Arc. Dancel is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Ascend One Corporation, parent company to the Amerix Corporation. Prior to leading Amerix, Dancel started National Credit Counseling Services, which later became Genus Credit Management. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Howard Bank. He is one of the founding members of the Columbia Ravens Football organization and is the Chairman of the Dancel Family Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to focus on the needs of children. He has served on the boards of the Howard County Public School Education Foundation, Columbia Foundation for the Arts, and Howard County Community College Education Foundation. Junior Achievement, Starr, Domestic Violence Center of Howard County, National Family Resiliency Center, Howard County Academy of Finance, Maryland Council on Economic Education and the Horizon Foundation.
