June 21, 2011 — Monarch Academy Baltimore Campus, a public charter school opening in the fall of 2011, named Sundai M. Riggins principal. Riggins has 10 years of experience in education as a teacher and school administrator. Before joining Monarch Academy, Riggins was assistant principal at Brightwood Education Campus in the District of Columbia Public School System. Previously, Riggins served as English Department chair at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg,; ninth-grade English teacher at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C.; and language arts and mathematics teacher at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in Takoma Park. She also worked as program director and summer camp director of the Community Preservation and Development Corporation in Washington, D.C. Riggins received the High School Principals Association Teacher of the Year Award in 2007 for her abilities as an educator and leader. Monarch Academy Public Charter School Baltimore Campus is a co-educational public charter school sponsored by The Children’s Guild serving students in Baltimore City.
