April 28, 2011 — Dr. Lou Lukas has been named as Hospice of the Chesapeake's Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Lukas previously served as was the Medical Director of OACIS (Optimizing Advanced Complex Illness Support) LVHN’s palliative medicine program located Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa, Dr. Lukas most recently completed a fellowship in health science research and leadership at the University of Michigan in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Completing her residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network where she participated in a pilot palliative medicine program to help patients with advanced and complex conditions and their families focus on their quality of life. Dr. Lukas has received certification from the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medical and completed the Harvard Medical School’s Program in Palliative Education and Practice. Hospice of the Chesapeake’s mission is to improve the quality of life for those in our communities experiencing advanced illness or bereavement through hospice and other palliative care, compassionate support and education.
