April 15, 2011 — The Maryland Municipal League (MML) will honor Maryland House Speaker Michael E. Busch with one of MML’s highest honors for Maryland elected officials at the MML Annual Convention June 25-29. Speaker Busch will receive the 2011 Distinguished Legislator Award at the Convention’s Inaugural Dinner on June 28 for his unwavering support and willingness to advocate on behalf of MML’s members to successfully reinstate 25 percent of municipal Highway User Revenues in the FY 2012 budget.
Since 1999, MML has presented the Distinguished Legislator Award only six other times. This is the second time Speaker Busch will receive the honor, making him the second elected official ever to receive the award twice. In 2008, Speaker Busch received his first Distinguished Legislator Award from MML along with House Environmental Matters Committee Chairman Maggie McIntosh for supporting legislation to direct all funding in the Department of Natural Resources Community Parks and Playgrounds program to municipal governments.
Located at the Phipps Municipal Center in the state capital of Annapolis, The Maryland Municipal League (MML) was founded in 1936 and represents 157 municipal governments and 2 special taxing districts throughout the state of Maryland.
