March 30, 2011 — TeleCommunication Systems Inc. has hired Jay F. Whitehurst as senior vice president of its Commercial Software Group. Whitehurst has 27 years experience in all phases of executive leadership for global telecommunications companies. He is a founder of Velleros and most recently served as a director and Chairman of the Velleros Board since the company's formation. Prior to launching Velleros, he held executive management positions with Nortel Networks, Axes Technologies, Tekelec, and GENBAND. As chief operating officer of Movius Interactive, Whitehurst developed new value-added services for Tier 1 wireless carriers. Prior to Movius, he was president of Tekelec's Switching Solutions Group, where he secured major channel partners, reduced costs and delivered a next-generation converged media gateway. Prior to Tekelec, Whitehurst was a board member and executive vice president of business development at Axes Technologies. Whitehurst began his career with twenty-two years at Nortel Networks, where he advanced to become executive vice president of wireless global operations.
