March 8, 2011 — James Mitchell, interim director of campus operations, received the 2011 Distinguished Staff Award from College of Notre Dame of Maryland at the school’s annual Notre Dame Day celebration.The Distinguished Staff Award is chosen annually by Notre Dame faculty and staff to honor a peer who exhibits outstanding competence and performance in his or her area of responsibility; accepts challenges beyond the expected; responds consistently with a positive attitude; serves the community in a gracious manner; empowers others with the Notre Dame spirit; and contributes to the mission of the College. Mitchell joined College of Notre Dame as director of campus security after a 30-year career with the Baltimore County Police Department. In 2010, he served as president of the Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (ACLEA) for the Chesapeake Region. In October 2010, he was appointed to his current position, providing management oversight of the buildings and grounds, engineering, and housekeeping departments, in addition to security and transportation. College of Notre Dame of Maryland is recognized for its commitment to a liberal arts education, including strong teacher preparation and nursing degree programs and small class sizes.
