March 3, 2011 — Orlan M. Johnson, a partner with Saul Ewing, LLP and co-chair of the Securities Transactions and Regulations Practice Group, has been honored as a “trailblazer” by the SEC’s African American Council in observance of African American History Month. The award recognizes recipients for their professional accomplishments and community service. Johnson previously served as an attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition to his corporate law practice, Johnson was appointed in 2009 by President Obama to serve as Chairman of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC); an appointment later confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He also serves on numerous boards of directors and the Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland.. While at the SEC, Johnson served for nine years as a Staff Attorney and Branch Chief in the Division of Investment Management.
