March 2, 2011 — Maroon PR, a Columbia-based, full-service PR and marketing firm, has hired Chartese Burnett to serve as the company's Director of Nonprofit Public Relations. Prior to joining the firm, Burnett served as the Vice-President of Communications and Community Relations for the Washington Nationals. Before her tenure with the Nationals, Burnett was the Special Assistant to the Public Affairs Administrator at NASA, Assistant Vice-President of Communications at the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Association, National Football League Players Incorporated (now NFL Players) and the Assistant Director of Media Relations at the National Basketball Association (NBA). Currently, Burnett serves as an Adjunct Professor of Communications and Journalism at both Georgetown University, her alma mater where she was a Rhodes Scholar nominee, and the University of Maryland. A lymphoma survivor, she was named the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Woman of the Year in 2008 and remains heavily involved with the organizations National Capital Area chapter, as a board member and chairperson for the 2011 Man/Woman of the Year campaign. She also currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Beckys Fund, an organization focusing on domestic violence and awareness, as well as having served as the Committee Chair for the Reading Is Fundamental annual gala in 2010.
