February 9, 2011 — The South Baltimore Learning Center (SBLC) has hired Nettie Schubel as its External Diploma Program (EDP) coordinator. Approved by the State of Maryland, the National External Diploma Program (EDP) is an alternative method for adults to earn a Maryland High School Diploma. For the past six years, Schubel served as the adult education instructional specialist and International Club adviser at Hagerstown Community College, where she received the Superior Teamwork Award. She previously served as the EDP lead advisor assessor and an ESL teaching assistant for Washington County Public Schools. Additionally, she held positions in support of bilingual services at the Washington County Health Department and Milwaukee Area Technical College. A trained community interpreter/cross cultural communications, she holds memberships in MAACCE, the National External Diploma Program Council (NEDPC) and the Maryland chapter of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc. (TESOL).
