September 16, 2010 — The Greater Washington Board of Trade, the largest business organization representing regional interests throughout the Greater Washington region, congratulates Chairman Vincent C. Gray on winning the District's mayoral race, and Kwame Brown on winning the Council Chairman race in the District of Columbia. Gray previously served as Council chairman, and vice-chairman, of DC Council's Committee of the Whole, and also served as chairman of D.C. Council's Public Safety Commission. In 2008, Gray successfully led his Council colleagues in passing the "Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Act of 2008", a program to provide universal pre-kindergarten to every three- and four-year-old in the District of Columbia by 2014. Brown currently serves as chairman of the Council’s Committee on Economic Development and vice-chairman of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. He is the first DC Councilmember to be a member of the Congressional Award Foundation Board of Directors, a national organization that promotes volunteerism, public service, personal development and physical fitness.
