June 15, 2010 — Leadership Montgomery has named Dr. Hercules Pinkney, interim president of Montgomery College, as the recipient of its 2010 Sandy Spring Bank Outstanding Leadership Award. Dr. Pinkney was presented the award at Leadership Montgomery’s 21st Annual Celebration of Leadership at the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel and Conference Center in Rockville.
Dr. Pinkney served as vice president and provost of the College’s Germantown Campus, and also as vice president for continuing education and evening programs at Prince George’s Community College.
Prior to that, he was director of continuing education for the former Maryland Board for Community Colleges Coordination. Dr. Pinkney held administrative positions at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Va, and at the former Federal City College in Washington, D.C. He also has teaching experience in two public school systems and two four-year colleges.
Gov. Martin O’Malley appointed Dr. Pinkney to two terms on the state’s 15-member Life Sciences Advisory Board. He is a board member for the Tech Council of Maryland and the Universities of Shady Grove, and in addition to all this, a board member of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, and he chairs the Interagency Technology Policy and Coordination Committee. Shortly after his official retirement from Montgomery College, the Board of Trustees asked Dr. Pinkney to lead Montgomery College.
