April 28, 2010 — Robert J. Lawless, former chairman, president and chief executive of McCormick & Company, Inc., has pledged $2 million for an endowed chair to enhance The Kennedy Krieger Institute's longstanding history of helping children with special needs. The Lawless Family Endowed Chair was presented to Michael F. Cataldo, Ph.D., Director of Kennedy Krieger?s Behavioral Psychology Department. Dr. Cataldo is also a professor of Behavioral Biology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and an adjunct professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland. He has served as president of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the American Psychological Association's Division 25 (Experimental Analysis of Behavior) and Division 33 (Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities).Additionally, Dr. Cataldo will continue his research into effective treatments of certain problems of child behavior, including severe forms of aggression and self-injury. The Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore serves more than 12,000 children with disorders and injuries of the brain and spinal cord each year.
