April 14, 2010— The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) selected Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) as Legislator of the Year for 2009-2010.
Senator Mikulski received the award as part of the BIO Legislative Day Fly-In.
"During Senator Mikulski's long-standing service on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, she has provided thoughtful and responsive leadership on issues critical to the biotechnology community such as drug safety and importation," BIO President Jim Greenwood stated.
BIO members are involved in the research and development of innovative healthcare, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products. BIO also produces the BIO International Convention, the world's largest gathering of the biotechnology industry, along with industry-leading investor and partnering meetings held around the world.
