Governor O'Malley appoints three people to Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners

February 22, 2009 — Governor Martin O'Malley in conjunction with Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, appointed Lisa Akchin, and re-appointed Jerrelle Francois and Maxine J. Wood to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners. Lisa Akchin is the Associate Vice President and Assistant to the President at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Prior to that, she served as the Director of Marketing for the University of Maryland Medical System. Francois has served on the City Board and is a former teacher and administrator with the Baltimore City Public School System. Additionally, she serves on the Board of The Walters Art Museum. Dr. Wood is the Chief Operating Officer for Site Development and Operations at the Center for the Social Organization of Schools, Johns Hopkins University. Prior to that, she served as Executive Assistant Superintendent for the Alexandria City Public School System. The Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners seeks to improve student achievement and establish effective management systems in support of quality instruction.
