DISCUSSING THE REGION'S GROWTH
Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. told a room full of movers and shakers in December that the Baltimore-Washington Corridor is a region he brags about around the country and even around the world.
The group had gathered at an exclusive roundtable discussion, hosted by Corridor Inc. at the UMBC Technology Center in Catonsville, to learn more about the growth of the Baltimore-Washington Corridor.
Freeman A. Hrabowski, president of UMBC, said the state has built momentum around the Corridor.
“There is no doubt in my mind that this Baltimore-Washington Corridor is one of the hottest in the country — whether we’re talking about percentage of scientists and engineers, the percentage of people who are educated or the median income,” Hrabowski said.
The morning’s discussion, on a campus that overlooks the Corridor, was led by a panel that included Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens, Howard County Executive James N. Robey and Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development Aris Melissaratos.
They spoke about the influx of jobs from the federal Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, transportation and housing issues, as well as maintaining the region’s quality of life. |
