Image     Richard F. Barnard has been named chairman of the board of directors of the Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce. He is currently principal of Arundelton Associates, a consulting firm that works with non-profit organizations across the state. Previously, he spent 35 years in executive leadership positions with Melwood Training Centers, a social service agency that provides services to adults with developmental disabilities.

Image     Larry P. Bormel has been named president of the Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber Foundation Inc., the non-profit arm of the Baltimore/ Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce. Bormel is a partner in Bormel, Grice and Huyett P.A.. He will replace Don Danneman, the outgoing president. Bormel will be responsible for helping manage the foundation’s scholarship funds, holiday mixer, annual gala and mathematics symposium.

     Kelley Ray was hired as the vice president of government relations for Health Facilities Association of Maryland, a non-profit trade association based in Columbia. Ray will represent association members before the Maryland General Assembly. She will also lead grassroots initiatives with members and other supporters of long-term and senior health care services. Ray has 20 years of professional advocacy and public affairs experience and was most recently a government relations consultant for Alexander and Cleaver P.A. in Annapolis.

     Image     Marc C. Lee has been named manager of Howard Bank’s Maple Lawn branch, which is the third full-service branch office for the locally owned and managed community bank. Lee was previously assistant branch manager of Howard Bank’s Hickory Ridge branch. Prior to joining Howard Bank, he was an assistant branch manager with Susquehanna Bank.

     Image     APS Healthcare, a national provider of specialty  healthcare solutions headquartered in Silver Spring, has appointed Christopher “Kit” Gorton to serve as president of APS Healthcare’s commercial programs division. Gorton has also retained the responsibilities of APS’ chief medical officer. He joined the company in January. Gorton was most recently chief medical officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.

     Image     Carolyn Norwood was promoted to vice president and branch manager of Columbia Bank’s Heaver Plaza office in Baltimore County. Norwood has been with the bank for 10 years as a branch manager and was most recently an assistant vice president. She will continue to oversee the day-to-day banking operations of the branch and develop new business opportunities in the area.

     Image     Charles Heller has joined the investment committee and board of directors of Athlone Global Security Inc., a private equity and venture capital firm that invests in Israeli homeland security companies. Athlone is based at the Chesapeake Innovation Center in Annapolis and in New York City. Heller is president of Annapolis Capital Group, an early-stage investment and management consulting firm. He was previously general partner of Gabriel Venture Partners, another early-stage venture capital firm.

     Image     Mary Kay Burch was named vice president of logistics services for Northrop Grumman Corp.’s Electronic Systems Sector, which is based in Linthicum. Burch will have executive responsibility for the sector’s worldwide field engineering and services operations and will provide oversight for the identification and application of best practices. She is a 21-year veteran of the company. Burch was most recently the vice president of eastern region manufacturing for the sector.

     Timothy J. Winter
was named vice president of market development for Northrop Grumman Corp.’s Electronic Systems Sector. He will be responsible for developing and implementing the sector’s strategic campaign. He joined the company in 1981. Winter was previously the director of naval and missile defense.

     The Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland has hired Jody Thomas as the new director of membership development. She will lead the bureau’s membership sales team in their efforts to attract and retain accredited businesses. Thomas has 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and association management. Prior to joining the Better Business Bureau, she worked in workforce development at Anne Arundel Community College and on the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board.  

     Image     Virginia Holland has joined the BWI, Arundel Mills office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, as a commercial sales associate with the Cockrill Group. She will be responsible for using her experience in coordinating educational programs and e-marketing to bring an increased level of service to clients.

     Image     Liberty Property Trust, a commercial real estate company in Columbia, has promoted Lisa Sullivan to vice president and city manager for the company’s Maryland region. She will oversee Liberty’s Maryland operation, managing all functions related to leasing, property management and marketing. Sullivan was most recently Liberty’s vice president of leasing and development in Maryland. 

     John Maraganore
has been named to the board of directors of MacroGenics Inc., an immunotherapeutics company headquartered in Rockville. He is the president and CEO of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company in Cambridge, Mass. MacroGenics is a venture-backed biotechnology company that focuses on the development, manufacturing and commercialization of immunotherapeutics for autoimmune disorders, cancer and infectious disease.

 
     Columbia Bank’s Dottie Paxton has been promoted to vice president and branch manager of its River Hill branch. She was previously an assistant vice president and branch manager. Paxton has been with Columbia Bank for eight years. She will continue to oversee the day-to-day banking operations of the River Hill branch while developing new business opportunities in the Howard County market.

     Arxan Technologies Inc., a Bethesda-based company that provides products and solutions that protect software and hardware, has hired Kevin Morgan as vice president of engineering. He will help develop the next generation of anti-tamper and anti-piracy products. Morgan has 26 years of experience in the commercial system software business. He was most recently vice president of engineering at MontaVista Software.

     JustRight Technology, a Catonsville computer and network support company, has hired William Spencer as the new technology manager. He was previously with the National Center on Institutions and Alternatives in Woodlawn, Md.

    Erica M. Osley-Maxwell has been hired as the senior construction accountant at Manekin LLC, a full-service commercial real estate and residential land development firm. Osley-Maxwell will maintain general-ledger accounts and analyze construction accounting data for compliance. She was most recently the controller/full charge bookkeeper for Chilltrol Inc. 



      Avalon Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Germantown-based biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics, has named David Kabakoff to its board of directors. He is the president and CEO of Strategy Advisors, a company he established in 2001 that provides services to life sciences companies. The addition of Kabakoff brings the number of members on the board of directors to 10.

     The Community College of Baltimore County has a new president. Last month, Sandra Kurtinitis began her role as the community college’s new president, overseeing three campuses and two extension centers. She came to the college last year and has over 30 years of experience as a community college professional.

     Richard “Dick” Macedonia, president and CEO of Sodexho Inc., a Gaithersburg-based provider of food and facilities management, has joined Deloitte & Touche USA LLP’s external diversity advisory board. The board was formed in 2002 to ensure oversight for meeting the organization’s business objectives for growth, profitability and greater inclusion. Macedonia is the board’s sixth member and was chosen because of Sodexho’s reputation for diversity.

     Kevin Starr, former chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Millennium Pharmaceuticals, has been named to the board of directors of Human Genome Sciences Inc., a Rockville biopharmaceutical company. Starr has more than 20 years of experience in finance, technology, business and operating management. He retired from Millennium in 2003 and now serves on multiple boards of directors.
